Northwestern University: Master of Science in Law

Master of Science in Law (MSL) Program at the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law
A unique master’s program designed specifically for STEM professionals

As we watch local, national, and world leaders address our current health crisis, we are reminded how valuable it is for decision-makers with technical expertise to also understand the legal, regulatory, and business implications of their work. Now, more than ever, good solutions require multi-disciplinary analysis.

The Master of Science in Law is an interdisciplinary degree that provides individuals with STEM backgrounds specialized training in the areas of business law and entrepreneurship, intellectual property and patent design, and regulatory analysis and strategy. The program also focuses on skills development – oral and written communication, quantitative skills, negotiations, etc. Students can complete the full-time program in nine months, or the part-time program (via either the residential or online format) in two to four years. For more information on the MSL Program’s revolutionary curriculum, please review our program brochure.

Indiana produces strong STEM graduates through its schools and degree offerings, and we think the MSL Program is a great graduate school option for your students. I encourage you to explore our distinguished student and alumni profiles.

Our traditional spring recruiting plans – university visits, national conferences, and on-campus sessions – are obviously not possible right now. We imagine that your institution’s career and advising plans also may have been altered. We’re reaching out to you because we want to know if you have ideas for how we can reach your students while restricted from in-person events. What do you think would be the best approach to most effectively reach your students? Some possible options include:
• Virtual campus information session – 30 to 60 minute presentations tailored to your students, with time for questions.
• Academic advisor webinar – 30 to 60 minute presentations tailored to your advising team, with time for questions.
• Invite your students to our monthly webinar, where the program director and current students provide an overview and discuss the benefits of the program. Typically held on the third Wednesday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 PM CT and our April webinar is this evening from 5:30 to 6:30 PM CT. I’d be happy to send along registration information for you to pass to your students, or to reach out to your students directly if there is a mechanism for that.
-Digital material distribution – we’re glad to provide brochures or flyers for your digital bulletin boards/central department sites.

Additionally, due to circumstances regarding COVID-19, we have modified application deadlines and timelines to accommodate students during this time. We have surpassed our second round April 1 deadline, but we will review applications on a rolling basis through our final round deadline which has been extended to June 15, 2020. Applicants will receive a decision within 4 weeks after application completion. International students requiring a visa for the MSL program must submit their application no later than May 1, 2020; this deadline is necessary to allow adequate time to secure a visa.
